We are pleased to present the first solo exhibition by Raphael Weilguni (*1989 in Augsburg) at Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle.
In his latest ceramic sculptures, the Munich-based artist shows the result of an intensive phase of work, which are associatively reminiscent of natural forms such as clouds of smoke or rock formations, but here and there also reveal body parts or even faces. The sculptures appear as if they have been excavated from natural materials, rather than assembled, and it is difficult to tell whether they were created by chance or deliberately formed. The simultaneity of the processual as well as the archaic character of these ethereal sculptures are palpable and raise the question of where they actually come from.
